Joanna Garner, an award-winning writer and immersive experience designer, brings to life stories that explore sexuality, wildness, and transformation. She has an MFA in Playwriting from The University of Texas at Austin. Joanna was Chance Theater’s 2018 Playwright in Residence and developed three plays in addition to Punk AF with the company, including The Orange Garden (winner of the 2018 Izzy Award and The Keene Prize for Literature), and another play with music, 100 Heartbreaks. Her theatrical work has been developed nationally and internationally, including with Seattle Repertory Theatre, the Finnish National Opera, and the Banff Centre. As former Senior Story Creative Director for Meow Wolf, Joanna spearheaded story development for the mega-hit exhibition Omega Mart. Since leaving the company, she has designed stories and experiences for Virgin Voyages, FX’s American Horror Story, Jon Favreau’s company Fairview Portals, and Chloe Zhao’s new film adaptation of Dracula. She is currently writing her first book, F*cking Together, which will be published by Cleis Press in 2026.
