Open Positions
At this time, we are hiring for the following positions:
- Reads and evaluates play submissions for potential inclusion in theater programming
- Provides written feedback and recommendations based on artistic merit, producibility, and alignment with the theater’s mission
- Participates in occasional literary team meetings or discussions (in-person or virtual)
- Maintains confidentiality and professionalism when handling submitted materials
- Meets established reading deadlines and communicates progress clearly with the Literary Manager
- Brings curiosity, critical thinking, and respect for diverse voices and perspectives
- Ideal candidates have experience and/or education in theater, and in at least one of the following areas: playwriting, dramaturgy, acting, directing, or literary analysis
- Comfortable reading and analyzing a wide range of genres, styles, and lengths
- Must have access to email and be comfortable submitting feedback digitally
- Training and reading guidelines provided
- Flexible schedule based on reading cycles and availability

- Willing to commit to reading 4 plays per month over the course of 3 months (12 plays total), potentially more on an occasional basis

- Patron Experience: Assist with day-to-day patron experiences, including ticket sales, inquiries, and general administrative support.
- Theater Season Knowledge: Maintain knowledge of current productions and key selling points.
- Clerical Skills: Work in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and CRM/ticketing software.
- Marketing: Assist with social media engagement and marketing efforts, including graphic design.
- Ideal candidates have strong organizational and communication skills, some experience with Canva, InDesign, or other graphic design tools is a plus.
- Flexible availability, primarily working 11 AM – 3 PM (M-F)
- Compensation: $16.90/hour
- Part-time position
- Designs and teaches original theater classes or workshops
- Works with children, adults, elders, and community groups
- Follows established curriculum and adapts lessons as needed
- Creates inclusive and engaging learning environments
- Capable of teaching on-site, off-site (i.e. schools, community spaces)
- Prepares materials and manages classroom setup/cleanup
- Comfortable supporting a final performance or showcase at the end of a program
- Communicates clearly and professionally with staff and participants
- Attends occasional trainings or meetings
- Manages time and space independently
- Ideal candidates have teaching experience, theater training, reliable transportation, and a passion for community engagement
- Must pass a Live Scan background check
- Flexible schedule based on program needs
- Compensation: $25/hour
- Part-time position
- Curtain Speeches: Deliver pre-show remarks to welcome and inform audiences.
- Talkbacks: Facilitate post-show discussions (training provided).
- Audience Interaction: Answer questions, discuss productions, and share information about Chance Theater’s mission and programs.
- Feedback & Reporting: Provide audience insights to leadership and adjust engagement strategies as needed.
- Front of House Support: Assist with patron services and FOH operations as required.
- Ideal candidates are confident public speakers with a passion for theater and community engagement.

- Provides courteous and professional customer service
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Answers questions, via phone, email, and face to face interaction, concerning reservations, subscriptions, events, tickets, schedules and gives information concerning upcoming attractions
- Schedules, trains, and supervises ushers, who take tickets and lead patrons to their seats.
- Ensures the preparation of programs and verifies that the house, lobby, and seating area are clean and presentable for the audience.
- Ensures that signs or notices relevant to particular shows are appropriately posted.
- Responsible for the safety of the audience, in case of an emergency, like a fire or tornado, and should know what steps to take to either evacuate the audience members, or secure them in place.
- The house manager oversees the box office manager to resolve issues, coordinate ticketing services, and provide assistance as needed.
- Understands pertinent procedures and functions quickly and applies them without immediate supervision
- Availability evenings and weekends

- Part-time position with up to 20 hours per week
- Provides courteous and professional customer service
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Maintains and modifies records and filing systems on ArtsPeople regarding patrons and productions
- Understands pertinent procedures and functions quickly and applies them without immediate supervision
- Availability from 11am to 3pm required
- Compensation: $16.90/hour
- Support all theatrical departments, including sound, lighting, video and carpentry
- Assist in cleaning and maintaining all equipment
- Provide technical support & set up for theatrical productions and special events
- May assist with inventory, scheduling, and maintaining inventory of theater equipment, and supplies
- Work in the construction, load-in, operation, and striking of all productions
- Scenic and properties construction and painting
- Load in of stage lighting, sound, and video production
- Compensation: $16.90/hour (Additional compensation DOE for Audio Engineers)

Directing and Design Assistant
Support our directors & designers by volunteering as an assistant.
Gain valuable on the job experience assisting talented local artists. Volunteering to assist a director or designer gives you an opportunity to learn firsthand an individual director’s or designer’s process and the production process as a whole. As an assistant to the Director you’ll attend many if not all of the rehearsals. Rehearsals typically go for 4-6 weeks, 4-7 days a week, depending on the show and the Director. Specific duties and tasks will be decided based on the abilities of the assistant and the needs of the show.
