Eddie and Rachelle are now both retired and Eddie splits his time between his “Musics” (as Rachelle calls them), tennis, working out, the stock market, and news. Rachelle still serves on the Board and various committees and is committed to figuring out how to add some kindness and compassion to daily life. They are both thrilled to again be producing a relatively new play by Jenny Connell Davis, after first being bowled away by her reading of The Scientific Method (2016) and more recently producing her play Matinicus.
Jenny has again turned to history for inspiration, this time to holocaust survivor Georgia Gabor and to several other women based on real people, yet fictionalized here. As Jews, we know it’s never an easy time to be Jewish, and yet today the depth of people’s hatred, towards “Others” and not just towards Jews, is scarily on the rise. I always hope that our theater, with its emphasis on community building and developing empathy and caring, will serve not only as a salve, but also to transform our piece of the world.
Personally (and this is unlikely for me if you know my background and taste in music etc.), I’m starting to rely heavily on the message of joy from Bad Bunny to give me infusions of light in the midst of these dark times. You gotta love someone who says “the only thing stronger than hate is love.” Let us pursue that path as we go down some of the darkest holes of history and of the present with this play.
